Incoming Freshman and 8th Graders win JV Division at Team Camp

Coach Richards brought a group of girls who will be Freshman at HSE and 8th graders to the D1 Team Camp in Ft. Wayne.  The team played in the JV division and went 15 - 0 beating Northridge IN in the championship game 40-36. Coach Richards motto for the camp was to "Look the Best, Act the Best, and Be the Best", and they did all of those!  He said the girls were very coachable and they had allot of fun.

The incoming Freshman excelled in the individual contests, Lindsey Walton won the 1 on 1 competition, Britney Goggans won the Speed Dribbling contest, Bailey Mittman got 2nd place in the free throw shooting contest and Mariah Triske got 2nd place in the 3 point shooting contest.

Besides winning the tournament and going undefeated, the girls also won the team free throw shooting and Team 3 point shooting contest.  Great Job Girls!

Varsity and JV stay undefeated at Notre Dame Team Camp

There will be 2 more games for the Varsity and JV on Saturday and then they go to Cedar Point for some fun.

DAY 2:  The Varsity beat Grayslake IL in their first game 30-26, followed that up by beating Trinity PA 55-29 and finished the day beating Worthington OH 49-23.

The JV beat Pettisville OH 41-21, then beat Hagerstown IN 30-10, and closed out with their closest game of the trip by beating Versailles OH #2  31-29..

Coach Huppenthal said that the girls look like they haven't played together in a while.  He said the defense has led to allot of offense and their transition game is looking pretty good.  Coach Richards said the JV is playing well and showing their experience.

DAY 1:  The Varsity won their first game 54-24 against South Bend Washington and followed that up by beating Notre Dame Michigan 56-21.   The JV beat Swanton OH 52-7 and then beat Versailles OH 34-14.

Comments from Coach Wiseman:

The Lady Royals basketball team has been working incredibly hard this off-season. We have met twice a week since Spring Break to lift weights and work on agilities and speed improvement. Coach Huppenthal asked the girls to write down very specific goals for themselves for this off-season.

It has been fun to see the girls working on a daily basis to reach these goals. It hasn't always been easy for the girls, as they are being pushed hard, but they are starting to realize what it takes to be a championship team. We will continue to do similar workouts throughout the summer with the addition of individual and team basketball workouts. We are anxious to see how our hard work will pay off for next season!

Spring Workouts Have Begun - Update from Coach Hupp:

The spring workouts have gone very well. We had the returning high school players write goals down for improvement in the weight room and we believe they have worked hard to achieve their goals. The coaches have seen a definite improvement in our player’s attitude and work ethic in the weight room. Also, the past couple weeks, we have invited the incoming freshman to come workout with us and they have done a great job adjusting to the weight room and agility drills.

We are looking forward to this summer and the opportunity to grow as a team. While we feel we have a great nucleus back, we need someone to step forward and lead us. As we have told out players, we are going to be looking for some players to step forward and lead us in a positive way. Hopefully, those players will emerge soon.

Finally, we have given the kids a summer calendar and a blank calendar. On the blank calendar, we have asked the kids to write down any dates this summer that they will not be able to attend workouts. We are looking forward to a very productive summer.
